Tyler Stephenson, Reds agree on 1-year, $2.5 Million

CINCINNATI — Multiple reports confirm that the Cincinnati Reds and catcher Tyler Stephenson have reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth $2.525 million. This deal successfully averts the need for arbitration, a process typically involving players with three or more years of service time.

Despite facing challenges in the previous season, the 27-year-old Stephenson managed to come to an agreement for the next season. He posted a batting average of .243 with a .696 OPS, indicating a demanding season. While Stephenson’s recent performance may not entirely reflect the Reds’ future behind the plate given his successful 2022 campaign, the Reds will likely be looking for significant improvement from Stevenson before determining what the long-term will look like for the team behind the plate.
