Deep Pocket Reds sign RHP Montas from Lowly Yankees
The Reds continue to spend, spend, spend, and this time have secured the signing of right-hander Frankie Montas, as reported by Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Adding the seasoned 30-year-old Montas bolsters Cincinnati’s rotation with a proven starter. Montas will join a pitching lineup featuring Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, and Graham Ashcraft.
The agreement is structured as a one-year deal worth $16 million, as disclosed by Bob Nightengale.
Montas faced a limited appearance in the previous season, participating in only one game due to a shoulder injury. In 2022, he showcased his skills with a 4.05 ERA across 27 starts, contributing 144 1/3 innings for the Athletics and Yankees. His performance with Oakland was particularly impressive, boasting a 3.18 ERA before being traded to New York. The addition of Montas brings a seasoned arm to the Reds’ rotation, strengthening their pitching depth for the upcoming season.
